Domaine Galuval Le Coq Volant Côtes du Rhone Villages 2022

Sun-kissed warmth of the Southern Rhone on red-black fruit. Add in a touch of oak in support and you've a generous introduction to a well packaged CdR.

Palate has an edge of bitterness, black tea, firmish tannins. This rolls well with proteins - lapping up those tannins, and elevates it beyond the entry-level for the style - drinks more like a mid-tier Southern Rhone. 91

Cellier des Dauphins Les Dauphins Côte du Rhone Rosé 2020

Strawberry and husk, a little watermelon and rind.

Textural with a slightly broader palate profile. Citrus running fresh across the finish. Flash of fresh herb in the frame too. A pleasing, somewhat no-nonsense style of Rosé. 88

Un Air de Remejeanne Cotes de Rhone 2010

Hand-picked, sorted and de-stemmed.  Spends eight months in a concrete tank, is not fined (making it Vegan friendly), is lightly filtered, but all up this equals a wine of dashed good fun.

Lovely mix of brambly red fruits - predominantly raspberry.  Slight 'pastilley' aromatic profile, soft and smooth on entry with a whack of pepper and anise.

Look now, there's little by way of complexity, but it has this minerally resolve and the spice aids length.  At this price it is damn good fun, and darn good drinking.  90 - Good

Les Courtilles Cotes du Rhone 2010

Les Courtilles ('the courtyards') was founded in 1997.  It's a lovely fresh, modern take on the classic Cote Du Rhone style - what we in Australia generally know as a GSM, and in this case its a 48/ 44/ 8 blend of those three bad boys.

Attractive on approach, a red and black-fruited mix, kirsch, some violets and a hint of the classic wild herb, hawthorn and hedgerow mix so appealing.

More of the same on the palate, initially tannins can seem a little aggressive and powerful, but they do seem to tame quickly - or you get used to them.

It shows a touch of silk 'n' steel, the old iron fist in a velvet glove, the tannin prominent, they mouthfeel quite lush.  Concludes with a spicy twist.  I could drink a fair bit of this, and at the price you can too without breaking the bank.  92 - Very Good
