So...

The idea behind this blog in principle, was for it to be a forum in which I wrote up notes etc from wine tastings. Having entered fatherhood, I recognised my days happily popping out and buying a dozen gems were numbered. Therefore I hatched a plan to get together with some like minded souls and share the financial burden of tasting some top class wines. You know I have always wanted to taste a Brunello, a Run Rig, some Oregon Pinot, some top Burgundies etc but have never gotten around to doing so. Well, it seems that I haven't quite got around to organising this group of mates to undertake this activity with either. I'll get there. Like a good wine, you may have to exhibit some patience. Consider this cellaring time.

The Inaugural Post

I wanted to get in quick and snaffle the name for the site given the winewanker and thewinewanker were both taken. I don't profess to be an expert in matters oenological or viticultural. The intention for this site is that I hope to be sharing some tastings with friends, forming a small group to access wines that otherwise may be off limits: be that through prohibitive pricing or whatever. Watch this space.

04/02/2012: Update: this site was originally called www.thewinewankers.com - based on some feedback, a desire to achieve a more 'professional' name it has been rebranded to www.thevinsomniac.com
